Improv + My Style

This past weekend Cary & I met with Rapid Fire Theatre, a local improv group here in Edmonton.  On September 29th, Cary will be starring in one of their productions! Rapid Fire has been looking for an Eskimo to feature in a production for a while & they finally found the perfect fit with Cary. Shortly after we arrived at the theatre, Cary was thrown into improv action! I really enjoying watching as he learned & practiced some improv techniques with actors who will also be starring in the show. I'm so proud of him for stepping out & going for it. He's pretty good & definitely entertaining! :) Here are some fun pictures of Cary & the group in action! I'm hoping to do another post on the actual show & maybe include some video footage!

What I wore:

I didn't have long to get dressed for the meeting at the theatre so I kind of just threw this outfit together & ran out the door! I think it turned out pretty cute & the best part about it is that I was so comfortable! I just had to get in a last wear of my wedges...they have now officially been packed away & replaced by fall shoes. My two favorite parts about this outfit were my top knot (hello no time to shower!) & fun yellow necklace!

Fall Goodies: Pumpkin Cookies

It's fall y'all!

I must be honest...I've never been the biggest fan of the fall season...
I know...I'm crazy, right?! I'm just such a summer girl at heart! I would choose bright clothes, bathing suits & sunshine over sweaters, boots & chilly weather any day! I was basically born for life in Louisiana...or on a tropical island ;)

The reality is, we live in Canada (for a little while longer at least) so cool (and soon to be cold) weather is here to stay. This year I decided I was going to be more positive about the season change! I'm doing my best to embrace the cooler temperatures, warmer clothes & craze of pumpkin spice lattes!!! :)

I decided that baking a festive treat would be a great way to help me get excited for fall! Last night Cary & I made pumpkin chocolate chip cookies together. Turns out they taste just like they sound :) I wasn't sure how I would feel about the pumpkin flavor, but it was a really nice touch. I definitely recommend them if you're looking for an easy & different cookie for the fall season!

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients:
1 cup pumpkin puree
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 egg
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon milk
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips
cooking spray

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a cookie sheet with cooking spray.
Combine pumpkin, sugar, vegetable oil and egg. Mix until combined. In a separate bowl, sift flour, baking powder, pumpkin pie spice, salt and baking soda. Add milk and vanilla extract to flour mixture. Add pumpkin mixture into the flour mixture and mix until fully combined. Add in chocolate chips. Drop spoon size dough balls onto the greased cookie sheet, about an inch apart. Bake for about 8 to 12 minutes, until cookies are browned.

Yields: 24 cookies

I found the recipe here -->

(Scroll down the page to the 3rd recipe for the cookies)
I'm also really excited to try the 1st recipe from this site-pumpkin pie cupcakes! I'll be sure to let y'all know how they turn out!

Want to know a secret!?
Pumpkin chocolate chip cookies definitely go best with a big glass of milk, chilly weather & great company :)

Happy Baking!

DIY Polka Dot Jeans

Over the past couple of months, it seems like adorable polka dot jeans have been popping up all over Pinterest and in some of my favorite stores. I've been dying to have some of my own! I'd already spent the money we budgeted for fall clothes (good thing fall is a short season in Canada!!!), so I decided to make use of the unworn jeans that have been sitting in my closet since I unpacked them 3 months ago.

Total amount of money spent on this project: $2 :)

Materials:
jeans
a permanent marker/pen
fabric paint (acryllic works too)
old school pencil with an unused eraser
a ruler (to help keep your dots straight and evenly spaced)

This project is done best while listening to Dave Matthews Band, Mumford and Sons, and Jason Mraz ;)

Lay your jeans out on a clean, flat surface! Use a ruler,  (or makeshift cardboard ruler in our case) and a permanent marker/pen to measure and mark your "pre-dots". To create the diamond pattern, make the "pre-dots" at every inch mark (1,2,3,4...) then for the next line shift over 1/2 inch and follow the same inch mark dotting (1,2,3,4...) This isn't absolutely necessary, but it does make for a neater and more precise design! My sweet (and handsome) husband helped me with this part because I am slightly challenged when it comes to making straight lines...what a sweetheart, right?!

Once you finish "pre-dotting", the exciting part begins! Find something to pour a little bit of paint into (I used a top from an old pickle jar I saved), dip the end of your pencil (eraser side down) in the paint, and then press onto a pre-marked dot. You should re-dip the pencil in the paint for every new dot. We ended up going over the dots a second time just to make them a little brighter!
The hardest part for me was waiting for the pants to dry! I was so excited to finally try them on!

I love this project because anyone can do it! It's super simple and only takes a little bit of time and even less money!

Can't wait to have fun dressing my "new" jeans up and down throughout the fall season!

                                                                         Happy dotting! :)

                                                                                xo, TK

Diving In

Hi, I'm Tyler Koch (pronounced "Coke"), a southern Louisiana girl currently living in Canada! Five months ago I married my best friend Cary. Shortly after the wedding, we moved our lives to Canada so he could continue playing football in the CFL. Moving far away from home has definitely been a challenge but it has been more of a blessing than anything! God is good and has so clearly provided for our every need! Life in Canada is much slower than life back home for us, so I have lots of down time (which I am enjoying so so much). Cary and I love to be creative and crafty together, it's one major way that we connect and spend time with each other! On this blog we will be sharing craft projects,  recipes, tie-dye creations, favorite fashions, and our thoughts on life, marriage & God! Thanks for visiting and stay tuned for more Koch blogging fun!
